Tata Motors Shows Off Multiple Alt-Fuel Vehicle Options at Auto Expo 2012 in India

Tata Manza Hybrid
The largest carmaker in India showed off all of this alt-fuel technology at once in the country's largest auto show.
The Nano CNG (compressed natural gas) concept showed a bi-fuel vehicle with a sequential gas injection system that allows smart switching between natural gas and gasoline.
The Manza Hybrid concept is a diesel-electric parallel hybrid using a 1.05L DiCOR engine mated to a 45kW electric motor. The car has a roof-mounted solar panel, regenerative braking, and is capable of short distance all-EV driving.
The Starbus fuel cell concept is a 30-seat Tata Starbus fitted with hydrogen fuel cells and is being developed as part of an alliance between Tata and India's Department of Scientific and Industrial Research.
Finally, the Tata Magic IRIS CNG public transport vehicle is a small taxi-like van running on compressed natural gas. It's meant as a shuttle or taxi between larger transport like bus or rail.
Tata is really hitting alt-fuels hard, hoping to edge out competition from foreign companies like General Motors and Honda.
