Tata Technologies has unveiled an all-new Tata eMO EV compact city car concept at the 2012 North American International Auto Show.
Following in the footsteps of the Tata Nano – the cheapest car in the world – the eMO EV combines an ultra compact design with a eco-friendly powertrain.
The electric Mobility concept features twin liquid-cooled electric motors powering the front wheels. Power is sent from an 18.4kWh air-cooled high density battery pack.
Tata Technologies says the car has a range of 160km. It might take a while to run out of juice too, as the eMO EV has a top speed of just 65km/h.
Tata Technologies has no plans to put the eMO into production at this stage, saying that it was developed as an engineering exercise. Warren Harris, Tata Technologies President and Global COO, recently said,
“We developed it strictly as an engineering study with no particular automaker in mind. If there are auto companies interested in exploring the potential of the eMO, we would, of course, welcome that opportunity.”
Other features include unique reverse-swinging rear doors opening up to four seats, with the rear seats able to fold up for extra storage space. It also gets MacPherson strut front suspension, independent rear suspension, electric power-assisted steering, front disc brakes, and an electronic stability control system.
